When spirit calls you to stand as a leader, a teacher, or wisdom keeper, you are shown visions of yourself in what I call phase 3. The final phase. You see yourself standing in front of thousands of people speaking, channeling, sharing healing transformative energy, for example. You see the visions of grandeur, and you KNOW they are True. These are inspiring and intimidating at first. But the more they saturate your dreams, the more you feel yourself surrendering to the path, in trust and wonder.
The problem with working for spirit is this: spirit doesn’t show you a step-by-step path to get from here to there. Spirit shows you these grandiose visions of phase 3, but does not lay out phase 1 and two. And if you are a type-A overachieving go-getter, you might feel very impatient and frustrated when the grand vision does not manifest within the first year. You’re not alone in this!
See, spirit doesn’t think in terms of time. All potentials are true and real right now in the land of spirit. But here in this physical reality, there’s a path to walk to birth your path as a sustainable, responsible, marketable business. This path needs to begin with a phase 1. It can’t just jump to the grandiose phase 3.
No matter how deeply spiritual your path, your gifts, your purpose… No matter how miraculous your modality and magic,… No matter how effective and badly needed the work is… You need to make sense to make money. You need to layout the pathway for your own clients, starting with step one. You need to educate your peeps about this deep sacred work. And in almost all cases, you need to have a niche.
It begins their journey into the deeper work you also have to offer. You solve the urgent superficial seeming problem they have now while introducing them to you or deeper work and how much farther they can go with the deep stuff.
Let me give you an example. Susan is a deep seer. She can look into your soul and see the contracts that are holding you back. She can negotiate and clear your Akashic records so that repeating negative patterns stop happening in your life.
If Susan goes out into the world saying, “I can clear your Akashic records,” then only people who know what that means will understand. And those people are already working with the records. They don’t think they need help with that, even if they do.
But if Susan goes into the world telling people exactly how to use her, promising specific results, now she has clear value. “You know how some women attract the same little-boy type man over and over in a relationship? And this pattern continues even though they do therapy and counseling and so much personal growth work? Well, I’ve been clearing the way for these women to find love for the past 10 years with great success.” Now Suzan has a niche.
Your niche is the attractor for people to hire you the first time. It does not limit or trap you to dealing with that one niche issue forever. It is just a beginner problem that is desperate and urgent enough for your client to hire you that first time, despite the fact that you are a stranger to them.
If you have been avoiding getting specific like this with a niche, you are not alone. Many spiritual entrepreneurs never get this specific, and that’s why so many of them suffer trying to attract new clients.
But it’s not just about attracting new clients. If you’re thinking only about your grandiose visions, and the deepest work that you have to offer, you are blind to the immediate needs of the people you’re here to serve. There’s a danger of slipping into spiritual bypass and spiritual arrogance.
